Race Across America Team Simulation Ride

With 80 days to the start  of the Race Across America event, the Team Suicide Prevention  training and preparations  have certainly  ratcheted up.  The roster is finalized for both the racers and the crew members.  We’ve assembled an awesome group of individuals to take on this grand challenge in one of the toughest endurance events in the world. The focus now is logistics and tactical planning with particular emphasis on race procedures that will be used during Race Across America.  This past weekend, the entire team assembled for a 147 mile round trip ride from Tulsa to Perkins, Oklahoma utilizing all eight riders and eight crew members in four vehicles. On the outbound leg to Perkins, leapfrog rider exchanges were executed every ten miles and every eight miles on the return leg for a total of 32 exchanges. The primary focus is rider and crew safety during the exchanges with speed and efficiency coming in a close second. Working as a team, the average bike rider speed was over 19 mph.  These type of rider to rider exchanges will be repeated approximately 250 times during the 3,000 mile race day and night. The team will conduct at least two more practice rides during the next few weeks.

In the meantime, please do everything you can to stay healthy. We’ve all been through a lot of challenges and adversity during the last twelve plus months. Spring is fully trying to touch our cheeks and summer will follow shortly and it will be time to enjoy the warm/hot sunshine.

For Team Suicide Prevention, on June 19, it will be time to clip into our bike pedals in Oceanside, California and start racing across America with our riders and our amazing crew.

Thank You
