ASIST - Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training

What would do if you were face-to-face with someone that expressed thoughts about Suicide? That scenario happened many times to Team Suicide Prevention members. As untrained regular people, It would throw us into a full scramble to locate qualified resources to interact with the individual and of course time is of the essence to mitigate a potentially tragic situation.

In March, 2024 the ASIST workshop was offered in Tulsa.  A group of Team Suicide Prevention members completed the training; becoming more proactive in the ability to communicate with those in crisis.

At a LivingWorks ASIST workshop, you’ll learn how to recognize when someone may be thinking about suicide, and how to provide a skilled intervention and develop a safety plan with the person to connect them to further support.

Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) is a two-day interactive workshop in suicide first aid. ASIST teaches participants to recognize when someone may have thoughts of suicide and work with them to create a plan that will support their immediate safety. Although ASIST is widely used by healthcare providers, participants don’t need any formal training to attend the workshop—anyone 18 or older can learn and use the ASIST model.

Participants will leave the ASIST workshop with

  • The ability to recognize signs of those at risk

  • A methodology to follow during an intervention

  • Experience several practice sessions in the ASIST model

  • Learn how to develop a safety net to get those at risk the help he/she needs

  • Confidence in the ability to communicate about suicide

  • Network with those sharing a passion for preventing suicide

The goal of the training is not to act as professional counselors but rather provide support until professional assistance is established. So often individuals who find themselves in this situation are ill-equipped to process the urgency of the moment. We hope that bringing this workshop back to Tulsa will equip a larger group of individuals to be effective in helping save a life.

We think this is a great opportunity for local businesses large and small to leverage this opportunity for their employees to get this training that could potentially help save a life.

The workshop will be at the
Conference Center, Legacy Center.
5330 East 31st Street, Tulsa, Ok
Space is limited to 30 participants

March 3-4, 2025
