Sequoyah Gravel and Trail Adventure
The Third Time Was The Charm
This past weekend (Feb 27 and 28), the Sequoyah Gravel and Trail Adventure was successfully completed after being rescheduled twice due to epic winter weather that besieged our area for almost two weeks. Temperatures that reached below zero and up to seven inches of snow in some areas made moving forward with an adventure race in those type conditions not just more challenging but dangerous. Just seven days prior to the Saturday Gravel Race, the temperatures were in the single digits with several inches of snow on the ground across north easter Oklahoma. Thanks to the determination and teamwork of the Bixby Bicycles’ team headed by Buster Brown and the Team Suicide Prevention team captains Bill Taitano and Eric Gomez, the “twice rescheduled” race weekend was a fantastic experience for the participants and spectators who were greeted with fantastic weather and the hospitality from the volunteers was amazing.
On behalf of the Bixby Bicycles and Team Suicide Prevention, we would like to extend our sincere thanks to all of the racers who participated, the wonderful volunteers, and the businesses who contributed support to make the race successful. They include Bixby Bikes, QT, Neff Brewery, Coop Brewery, Sam’s, Trader JOE, Lioness Coffee, Hope is Oxygen, Coffee Bunker and Pawhuska Hometown Foods .
On June 19th, Team Suicide Prevention will be lining up on the starting line to the 3,000 mile Race Across America (RAAM) that starts in Oceanside, California and finishes in Annapolis, Maryland nine days later. Stay tuned for updates as we continue to train hard and prepare to Get In The Race To Spread Hope and Help Save Lives.
