Race Across America - 3,000 miles of finesse and brute force

2020 will be the 39th consecutive Race Across America. Team racing was introduced in 1992 and has become an integral part of the race. Both solo and team racing provide their own logistical, strategical and physical challenges. While solo strategies may revolve around when to sleep, teams lean towards focusing on when to exchange and who tackles what terrain. In the early years teams thought each racer riding one hour pulls was the best way to go. Over the years that philosophy has changed drastically. While 2-person teams still tend to do longer pulls, the 4- an 8-person team have found that exchanges as frequently as 15 minutes is far for more optimal. Teams have also become more creative in breaking up pulls and strategically placing specific racers for specific terrain.
